- About the Author
Grace hovered. “Promise you’ll call as soon as you know anything.” The idea that little Rose was in trouble sent ice through her veins. Grace had known something was off with that woman, the sister. Why hadn’t she said anything?
“It’s only an hour flight via the helicopter. We’ll have the baby soon,” Adare said, his eyes veiled.
What wasn’t he telling her? Grace craned her neck to look at the blustering storm outside. “Should you fly in this?” There was zero visibility.
“Sure.” He pulled her in for a hard kiss and then let go. “Don’t disengage any of the security measures until Benny is at the gate and you see his face on video. Understand?”
She nodded, trembling.
“Let’s go,” Adare said, striding out the front door and not looking back. Ronan followed.
Faith, dressed in yoga pants and one of Ronan’s over-large T-shirts, turned toward the coffee maker. “I’ll put on a pot. Tell me again what Bobbi said to you.”
Grace repeated the story again for her sister. “I mean, my photographs have been selling well, and I guess her sister knew that, somehow. I saw the darkness in her, Faith. I saw it.” Or rather, all around her.
“This isn’t your fault.” Faith took two mugs out of the cupboard. She waited as the coffee flowed out and then poured two mugs, bringing one over to the table and motioning for Grace to sit. “Ronan and Adare will do what needs to be done.”
Grace wrapped her hands around her mug, letting the brew warm her. “This all seems odd, right?”
Faith blew on her coffee and then took a sip. “Definitely.”
Grace stiffened. “Do you think it’s a trap? That the Kurjans got to Bobbi? Or that the Kurjans have threatened Rose because of me? That I led them right to Bobbi and Brian? This is my fault.” She started to stand and jerked in surprise when her sister yanked her back down. “What are you doing?”
“We have no idea if it’s a trap or not. What we do know is that our mates are over a thousand years old, have fought countless enemies, and are still standing.” Faith took another sip. “Either way, that baby is who matters right now, and they’ll do whatever they have to in order to save her.”
Grace released her mug. “How can you be so calm?”
Faith set her cup down. “Oh, I don’t know. My sister was in a coma for two years and I could do nothing to help her. Then I met a vampire-demon hybrid from another world who was around fourteen hundred years old, and then I had crazy sex with him and got all mated and immortal. I guess after a while, you learn to trust that things will work out.”
The sarcasm was new but kind of funny.
