Jedda held up a hand as if I were holding a gun. ‘Hey, I don’t judge anyone. Life’s nothing if not complicated. But if you do want to get back together with him, how do you plan on doing it?’

‘That’s the million-dollar question. I have no effing idea.’ I slumped in the seat and stared into the mug. ‘My sister-in-law tried to help me with a makeover but when Adrian saw me all dressed up … well, that didn’t work at all. He spent more time gazing at the young female umpire.’

‘Naked selfies.’

‘What?’ I spluttered, almost spilling my drink.

‘When was the last time you sent naughty photos to your husband?’

I blushed. ‘Never! We dated before smartphones were invented.’

‘Then maybe you should give it a try. Surprise him with a sexy text. All the kids are doing it. Or so I hear. Why should they be having all the fun and getting in all the trouble?’

‘I’m not doing that. I’m too fat—I’d probably scare him away even more.’

‘You’re not fat.’

‘I’m fatter than I used to be. I’m sure Adrian thinks I’ve let myself go.’

‘If he does, then I’m not sure why you’d want to get back with him, but my guess is your issues have nothing to do with the way you look. You’re gorgeous, darling. My bet is this is more to do with Adrian than you. Maybe he’s forgotten how much fun you guys can have together? Maybe a photo would help.’

I couldn’t believe we were even talking about this, never mind that I was actually considering it. ‘Knowing my luck, I’d accidentally send it to the wrong person. My brother-in-law or one of the kids’ teachers.’

Jedda howled with laughter.

‘Do you have any other great ideas?’

She tapped the side of her nose. ‘I’ll think about it.’

‘Thanks.’ I smiled. ‘But I’ve talked enough about me. What about you? Have you dated anyone else since Jack?’

‘Nah.’ Jedda peered inside the pram to make sure Bindi was fully asleep, then grinned at me. ‘I’ve had a few offers of course, but none of them have come close to my Jack. Although of course I’d rather he was still here, I’m not unhappy on my own. There are a lot of advantages to being a single woman you know—no man hogging the TV remote; I can watch as many girly movies as I like without anyone complaining or mocking my choices; the toilet seat is always down; no snoring bed buddy; and I never have someone tapping me on the shoulder at night wanting a bit when all I want is to go to sleep.’

I had to admit, that did sound appealing—particularly the lack of snoring, Adrian was a shocker—but I’d been thinking about sex more than ever since he’d left. Granted, I’d never wanted it as much as he had, but the thought of never having any intimacy again depressed me something chronic. ‘You don’t miss sex?’
