My dearest Will
I’m writing to you from such a long way away. I don’t know if you’ll get this, I don’t even know if you’ll be waiting any longer. But Squidget knows his way home, and he knows to find you.
I’m staying here for a bit, Will. There’s tons of work needed here to make things right. You know me, I’m no stranger to warzones, clearing up the messy aftermath, trying to bring sides together.
Well, the two sides here, the Astingir and the Wraiths, are more alien than you could ever imagine, but their hopes and needs are as human as anyone I’ve helped before. They have the key to losing the weapons they created and the hate that went with it, and I’m not going to leave until I know it’s been sorted. I’m part of it. It was something the Doctor did to me a long time ago. I never understood back then, but now I know it’s meant to be.
The Doctor and crew are taking home the people the Ratts stole, but don’t worry – I’m not all alone out here. Chantelle has decided to stay on with me, and Kim too. They’re as surprised about that as anyone, but I reckon Kim’s already planning a new podcast about how things are in outer space. Listen out for him, you never know, right? That dish at Devesham’s big enough to pick up anything!
So, to the point.
You once told me that the world doesn’t work the way I want it to. You said, ‘You might think that you can go it alone, that you don’t need anyone else, but sometimes you do. Sometimes you just have to trust people.’
Well, you were right, you smug git. And I’ve always trusted you. That’s why I’m asking you to take over from me at A Charitable Earth. I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I need to know things are in good hands while I’m away. You’ve already got Squidget and the keys to the batcave. Sanaul can show you how the organisation works from the ground up.
I know you’re probably thinking, Hang on, what about my career? But running A Charitable Earth is more than just a job. It’s a calling, and I know you’re the right man to answer that call. Keep an eye out for the Doctor, she’s threatened to drop in on you from time to time. If I can send word via her, I will. If not … well, I’m gonna have one hell of a story to tell you when I’m back.
I’ll see you soon, I hope. Until that day, take care.
I’ll be thinking of you, and I know you’ll be Ace.
