Chapter 1
It was just a usual evening for jenny, when she being a punctual girl, was home tired from her coaching. This was a part of her usual daily chores. Jenny, 18 years of age, is a beautiful girl. She studies in class 12th.
Presently, Jenny is studying commerce. She has die-hard interests in fine arts and literature. She believes in her own life’s philosophy that marks don’t matter much in life, it’s God’s true gift (the talent) that makes one go far in life. Talent can only be discovered by one’s self-introspection.
Jenny just returned from her accounts coaching, when her parents.. .in loud voices, “Jenny, beta don’t sit on the computer, first have your evening snacks!”
Without any further replies, Jenny slams her door shut, sat on her couch and was too excited to go online. With her tiny, beautiful eyes, checking her Facebook account, she smiled to see HIS reply. Just “Hi i! I am online” made her jump around; Jenny was too kiddish to bottle her emotions.
“Yes! Thank God! It’s HIM! I’m right on time. Yeah! It’s six on the clock! Wow! God!” exclaimed Jenny.
And they went on chatting through g-talk, which is an easier way to getconnected. Both Jenny and John smiled and giggled. “May, I have your cell number? If you don’t mind.” Was a question raised daringly? And for the first time in her life, Jenny was not that shy to open, that made her feel like on seventh heaven. As Jenny was too lost to be mistaken, without any hesitation, Jenny typed her Idea number and she thanked the Lord for that ‘momentous day’.
It was just when she jotted down his magical number, she heard a knock at her door. It was her teasing brother outside, Oliver on the door. He shouted, “Didi\ What’s happening? Mom’s calling you…”
Her younger brother loved his sister and cared which he was too shy to show!
That night, Jenny was all alone in her bed, yet had HIM in her mind. And he was too alone, just had HER in his mind.
They thought of each other, pondering over what to say and what not to say…
John was an extrovert and an outgoing guy. He liked malting friends and was easy to get along. He had 20 of his girl pals, on his list! He loved yapping on his phone, for long. But, this time he was extra-excited, it was one girl, whom he had almost known everything about, but never seen her! Jenny also thought of him, as her best pal! Till…
It was six again, when Jenny banged her door shut. But this time with a difference! Not her PC, but with her cell… and she dialed that magical number…
Conversations on Phone (part 1)
HER: Hello! Is this John? Wow!
HIM: Yeah! Miss Adams!
HER: Ya..Hi! It’s Jenny.
HIM: Yaa…I know.
HER: But..how? (Thinking)
HIM: Its six yaar! It had to be you!
HER: So, how are you? Wow!
HIM: Me! Yeah! Good, fine… you?
HER: Me good.
HIM: So, Jenny what do you do in life?
HER: Well, I study in 12th standard. You?
HIM: Yeah! I’m doing my B.Tech from Delhi University and you are from Kanpur… right?
HER: Yaa.X am. I’ve heard a lot about Delhi.
HIM: Yeah! It’s cool! What have you heard?
HER: Hehhehehheh… naaa…(hiding) hmnn…that Delhi has metro. It has huge malls. Clean roads, good traffic sense. And yes, no power-cuts like in Uttar Pradesh.
HIM: Haan… yaa… everybody knows that! What else have you heard? (trying to be smart)
HER: Hmnn…well, it’s a little forward… right?
HIM: Okay! Okay! so, you don’t like that, haan!
HER: Naa… (hiding) (she liked to hear, his Okay, Okay, as Jenny had this flair for voices. And he sounded way… too good).
HIM: Okay… so (thinking).
HER: So, you tell me… How are your studies going? Which year of B.Tech are you in?
HIM: I’m in third year. So, studies rocking! I don’t study much, dear. But yeah, manage to score decent marks… You?
HER: Well, honestly, I am a mediocre in studies. But I am good in extra-curricular. I think, marks don’t always get you ahead in life. Am I right?
HIM: It’s debatable, dear (being a studious fellow).
HER: Well, different people, different views…
HIM: Hey, I’ve to go to market. So, I think we have to hang up…(sad to end, like this).
HER: (Thinking of him to be rude) Okay then…it was nice talking to you.
HIM: Hey, don’t get angry. We’ll talk tomorrow. And my pleasure
HER: Cool…take care. Bye!
HIM: You, too. Bye!
Chapter 2
It was seven in the morning, Jenny got up sleepily, when she heard her alarm ‘ringing’. “Oh! I’m late” exclaimed Jenny. It was just her concerned mother, as usual knocking on her door.
“Jenny beta, get up, else you will be late for school.”
Jenny rose from her bed, dressed in her white cloak, opened the door.
“Good morning, mom,” uttered her.
“A very pleasant morning to you, my dear. Now go and take shower and come downstairs. Breakfast is waiting, for you.” Her mom.
Jenny bathed her fair body, wore her school uniform, hurriedly. When will I ever get rid of this stupid uniform and these two plaits … they make me look so typical! She thought.
It was three when Jenny was back home, exhausted! “Hi! Good looking! What’s cooking?”
Jenny to her mom…! In conversation. It was when they were having their lunch. When her bro, Oliver came, hopping around.
“Hi! Deeds!.” exclaimed Oliver, when he started pulling his sister’s plaits. The conversation ended with “stop it, you nosy, Oliver!”
The awesome threesome, tired by now, were fast asleep within an hour from now. The clock had struck six and Jenny was eagerly waiting for her buddy to call up. Just after five minutes, Jenny’s phone started buzzing.
Part-2
HER: Hello! (excited).
HIM: Is this Jenny?
HER: Yes! It’s me! (super-excited).
HIM: So, how have you been… Jenny after one long day?
HER: Good! You say.
HIM: Me fine! So, Jenny tell me, today…What are your interests..
HER: Well, hobbies… Or interests?
HIM: Same thing.
HER: It’s not same. Anyways, I like reading non-fiction, listening to music and a bit of trending.
HIM: Okay… that’s good. So you’re into literary stuff, haan… (trying to guess).
HER: Yeah! Right. What about you? Gadgets I suppose? As you are a gadget lover, (recalling his B-Tech).
HIM: Yeah! I’m into music as well! Music is my first love! And western music. I just love to love! Also, I like to play guitar and yeah! I like to spend my time, yapping on phone.
HER Sounds cool! So, you play guitar! Did you get trained for it?
HIM: Yaa… I did learn it… Some time ago. Say only for three months.
HER: Good for you!
HER: (Hearing the knocking) Hey, I think my mom’s on the door. Nice talking to you…
HIM: (Feeling blue) Okay then… Bye jenny. Same here.
HER: Bye and good day, friend.
Chapter 03
When Jenny opened the doors, she saw her caring mother “Jenny beta, dad’s back from Delhi! And he’s got some cool stuff for you both! Go and check them out! ”
“Yeah! Mom …I will. Wow! He must have (thinking) bought dangler’s, bangles, neckpieces. Wow! My favourite jewelery!”
So, Jenny and Oliver, went to their dad’s room.
“hi! Dad So, how was your journey?”
“Yaa…it was tiring.”
Jenny waited for that present.
“And how’s the weather there, dad”? uttered Oliver.
“Yaa.. .its very much like here, kids. Very sunny and hot.” Goes dad. “I think, I have to freshen up, kid”.
“Dad, wait …” Jenny getting impatient.
“Where are our gifts, daddy?” Jenny goes..
“Yeah! Now, you guys came to the point,” laughs dad….
“Yaa.. .there are right here”.
As he opens his briefcase, he shows Oliver his favourite Beatles and Linking Park CD’s and Jenny is happy with her pair of accessories!
“Thanks dad!” Jenny.
“Thanks dad, love you,” Oliver.
“Love you too, beta’ dad.
Till then, their mom, arrives and says in her sweet voice:
“The supper is waiting to be eaten, kids!”
And this makes the wonderful day come to an end.
Chapter 4
It was yet another day. When the clock had struck six. And yes, that same time, in that same place.
Jenny dialed John’s phone.
HER: Hello, is that you, John?
HIM: Yes! Hi Jenny!
HER: Hi! John! How are you?
HIM: Me doing good! You say… so, what’s up?
HER: Me fine! Well, nothing much… Dad returned from Delhi, Yesterday and bought goodies for us.
HIM: Okay, so, yours means? You and… how many siblings are you?
HER: Well, we are two… me and my younger brother.
HIM: Okay… I see.
HER: And you?
HIM: Yaa… we are also two. Me and my brother.
HER: Okay, so you both are bros, haan?
HIM: Yaa… I suppose (hehheheheh).
HER: So, now tell me something, about your dreams.
HIM: As in….(thinking).
HER: As in… what you wanna do in your life..?
HIM: Me, say… First complete my B-Tech from D.U. and then be an engineer, finally get a good package! Simple…
HER: Okay, I see… So, you are in Delhi University (D.U.) that’s nice. Big dreams haan… Cool!
HIM: I suppose…{hehhehhehhh).
HER: Shut up! I don’t like this mockery.
HIM: Okay fine! I won’t {hahahhaha).
HER: Again…
HIM: I’m sorry, Jenny. You are very sweet dear.
HER: Accha, really, (shy and fearful) thanks
HIM: Yaa…. And me?
HER: Yaa.. .you are okay, too!
HIM: And what are your dreams, Jenny?
HER: I wanna do Fine Arts from BHU (Banaras Hindu University). I really like painting…
HIM: I like..Your honesty, Jenny. May you fulfill all your dreams!
HER: Yaa… I hope the same for you. First complete my boards… [hehhe). It’s been a long time chatting… so, the time tells me, to hang up, dear!
HIM: But… I want to talk… (for the first time).
HER: (Gets scared and happy) yaa… what? (expecting something).
HIM: Nothing!
HER: Shut up! Now bye!
HIM: Yaa… take care… nice talking to you, Jenny!
HER: Yaa… same here. Bye John!
Chapter 5
“It’s a weekend! Thank God! It’s our day!” exclaimed Oliver, her brother.
Who got free from his school work? Oliver studied, in 10th standard, who did not quite like /studied much, but always managed to pass with decent marks. Thanking his concentration and his ‘sportsman spirit’.
Weekend, especially Sunday, was a complete fun day for both the kids! Where they liked to let their heart out. They chilled out with their pals in the known food joints, in the malls, which happened with pre-planning on Saturdays.
“Yeah! Sunday calls for celebration!” Uttered Jenny. “Chalo let’s go to Rave three”.
“Hey, I’ve been bored with rave”, says Oliver.
“Then where to go, yaari We live in Kanpur and there’s little to explore!” Jenny.
“Yaa… right deeds! Chalo fine with me, you call up your friends!” Oliver.
And Jenny dialed her pals, but somehow thought of John. And thought, “I wish, he was here!”
And she cursed herself for saying so. How could she think of some stranger, and WISH him to be with her!
What’s happening to me!
And before she realised, John called her up.
And her phone buzzed…
Part 4
HIM: Hello! Hi Jenny!
HER: John! What a pleasant surprise!
HIM: Yaa… What’s so surprising. We talk every day. Right?
HER: Yaa… It’s just that you called at three and not our usual time buddy. Anything important…?
HIM: Actually, I was thinking of you.
HER: Accha (scared and happy). What? Tell me…
HIM: Nothing much… Just thought of talking to you.
HER: But not at six. Early I suppose! (trying to be smart).
HIM: Well… Actually I have to go somewhere at six. So, I thought of talking to you.
HER: Hmm… that’s good.
HIM: Yaa… Now stop pulling my leg!
HER: Nooo… I’m not.
HIM: To turn mazaak karma seekh gayi. Hmnn… mere saath sab sekh jaaogi.
HER: Aur kya kya, silth ogey.
SILENCE
HER: (Realising that, she had spoken wrong) I'm sorry.
HIM: Naa… go on… I liked it.
HER: kuch zyada nahi ho gaya… ?
HIM: Nahi (adamant). Acchal Jenny. Don’t mind. Can I ask you, something?
HER: Yes…
HIM: Can we talk?, during the night? Actually, I get free by night, only…
HER: When?
HIM: May be after 10 or 11. I’m sorry, but…
HER: 10 or 11?
HIM: Depends.
HER: Actually I sleep early.
HIM: when?
HER: By 10 only.
HIM: Okay then, chalo, let’s drop it (sad).
HER: Yaa.. But we can talk at six. What’s wrong with that?
HIM: Yaa… But I’ve started my B-Tech coaching. And it gets a bit late in the evening.
HER: So when… Are you joining that coaching?
HIM: Within a week. Please (realising) chalo fine, we will manage.
HER: How?
HIM: We will think of something. Don’t worry, my sweety! Just smile, and be happy!
HER Yaa.. .thanks.
HIM: Chalo then, time to hang up…bye!
