Once Amala had relieved her turbulent emotions enough to put on a brave face, she returned to the house, certain that by now Henry and Chit would have left and she didn’t have to fear coming upon them. At dinner she listened to her parents discussing how delightful their company had been and how much they’d enjoyed the visit of these two fine men. Oliver had invited them back and declared his hope that both Henry and Chit would become regular visitors. The very idea tightened Amala’s stomach. Viola was in complete agreement, certain that it was good for all of them to spend time with people who had so recently come from Amala’s homeland. Amala remained polite but commented as little as possible. Kat, as always, had no interest in hearing about India, but she was highly interested in the prospect of more visits from these two fine gentlemen. She steered the conversation toward their admirable character traits, which led into a discussion regarding whether or not they qualified as potential suitors.
