He wasn’t sure what he was feeling but whatever it was felt intense, like a HALO jump at night, or plunging forty feet off an old freighter into the James River. The sex had been fantastic but the personal connection…that had felt precious and at the same time fragile. It had been a long time since he’d felt so in tune with anyone outside of HRT. However, he didn’t spend a lot of time staring at his teammates while they slept, or wishing they’d wake up so he could make love to them one more time before they had to get to work.

Suddenly Yael looked up and frowned when she caught him staring at her. “I think I’ve found something.”

He strode over along with Alex Parker and Ashley Chen. He leaned over Yael’s shoulder and noticed the look Alex shot him.

Did Yael’s boss know what they’d done last night?

Shane clenched his jaw. He knew he shouldn’t dwell on how incredible last night had been, or whether or not it had been a good idea. Regardless, it was their business and no one else’s.

Yael pointed to a second larger screen that someone, probably Ashley, had set up on the desk.

“A few days ago, I set up a web crawler search to look for some of the script that Evi1Geni-us used to hack my feed.”

“What did you find?” Alex asked.

Yael dragged her fingers through her hair and Shane remembered how she’d done the same to him last night before pulling him close… And maybe it had been a bad idea to sleep together because now his focus was split when he needed to concentrate on why he was really here. To find Scotty’s killer.

“At first, there were too many hits. So I went through some of the data we captured during his previous webcasts on the dark web and I also,” she cleared her throat, “spent a bit of time this morning examining the sound recording EG sold as an NFT. The buyer loaded it to a private chat room he shared with a bunch of his friends. I sent a copy to the FBI techs. Anyway, these losers appear to be a group of incels who think Anya got what she deserved. I want them to suffer every bit as much as she did.” Yael’s lip curled in fury.

Atta girl.

The idea grown men would get a thrill out of listening to the soundtrack of Anya Baker’s murder repulsed him.
