Chapters (26)
Her life was in shambles. She had mishandled so many things. Messiah hated her. After discovering this gift, she was sure Ahmeek hated her as well. Bash was going to make her life a living hell. Her babies weren’t around to make it better. Morgan felt herself going dark. She could feel herself giving up. A girl who was so addicted to love possessed none. Morgan pulled out her phone and dialed Aria’s number as she sat on the floor, resting her head against the mirror in despair.
“Morgan? It’s two in the morning.” Aria’s sleepy voice came through the phone.
“Messiah knows about the twins.” Morgan couldn’t waste time apologizing for the late hour. She didn’t even have time for a greeting.
“Bitch, I know you fucking lying!” Aria exclaimed. All hints of exhaustion were gone.
“I wish I were,” Morgan answered. “He took them. He was so mad. Then I found this key to this dance studio. Ahmeek bought me a dance studio for graduation, and I didn’t even say thank you. I didn’t even know it was here. So I’ve lost not one man but two. I fucked up. I fucked all this up, Aria. How did I end up being the one to hurt people? They hate me, Aria. I love them, and they both hate me.” Morgan sobbed as she gripped the phone and clenched her eyes tightly. “Messiah couldn’t even look at me.”
“Where are you, Mo? Are you still at the dance studio? I’m going to come,” Aria said.
Morgan sniffed and wiped her nose with the back of her hand. “No, you don’t have to. I just … I don’t know. I just feel like I have no one. I’m fine. I’ll talk to you later.”
Morgan hung up the phone and stood. She snatched off her jacket and looked around the room until she located the speaker system. She rushed to it like her life depended on it and connected her phone. Play. Repeat. She would be here for a while.
When you sayyy,
You understand, you with the plan, you done with him
You better mean it
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Morgan poured her soul into the song, dancing and crying like her life depended on it. Face turned up in disgust, she didn’t miss a count. She had to purge the turmoil she felt. Dancing was like therapy. It allowed her to get it all out. Her mind wasn’t even present. It was on Messiah and Ahmeek and her twins and Bash and Ethic. Everyone except herself. She danced to rid her mind of the burdens of everyone else. She felt an unbelievable guilt pressing on her. She knew Messiah was aching. Confused. He wouldn’t even answer her calls to receive an explanation, and she feared that he’d meant what he had said. He was done, done with her forever, and that destroyed her because even when she had thought he was dead, she had never been done. Their chapter was historic, one she relived in her mind often. A part of her was relieved. It unburdened her that the truth was out. She knew her twins were safe with Messiah, but she could only imagine how confused they must be.
