Jenna humphed. “I remember when the two of you were dating—I wasn’t that young. It was like an explosion in the chemistry lab every time you two were together.”

“That was a long time ago.”

“I saw you together at the wedding, Sophie. Sparks galore. Grant agrees, don’t you, Grant? He’s nodding his head.”

“You both have very active imaginations.” So did Sophie, apparently, because the steamy kiss they’d shared yesterday played back in vivid HD. Again.

Jenna laughed. “You are so in denial. You were good together once. Maybe you can be good together again. Maybe there’s more to him hanging around than a little paint and varnish.”

“I’m trying to open a business here, Sis. Not rekindle an old relationship.”

“You can do both at once, you know.”

“I realize you’re on a tropical honeymoon, but real life is not a fairy tale. Aiden and I didn’t work out for a reason.”

“Situations change and obstacles can be surmounted.”

“Spoken like a happily married newlywed. How’s it going in the Bahamas, anyway? Soaking up some sun on your last day in paradise?”

“Nice change of subject. And, no, I got a little sunburned yesterday so we’re going to hang out in town today. I haven’t bought any souvenirs yet. How’s Seth’s new job going?”

“Pretty good from what he says. He’s diving in headfirst.”

“Sounds like Seth. Have you heard from Dad at all? He was great at the wedding, wasn’t he? He seems happy.”

She was glad Jenna hadn’t noticed his quarrel with Seth at the reception. “He actually came to see me this week—to check out the shop and everything.” No need to mention the loan.

“Aw, that was nice of him to make that drive. See, he’s trying. I wish Seth would give him some credit.”

“Give him time.” Lots and lots of time.

“So you’re still opening on Tuesday?”

“I have no choice in the matter. A bestselling author and all his fans will be at my doorstep. Speaking of which, I’d better get back to the shop and finish pricing books.”

“All right. Granny, Seth, and I will be there for your opening. Can’t wait to see your store.”

“Looking forward to catching up. Safe travels tomorrow.”

“Love you, Sis!”

“Love you too,” Sophie said but Jenna had already disconnected, no doubt eager to return to her new husband.

Just as well. Their coffee was getting cold. It was nice that Jenna had taken the time to call. Even if it had only been to harass her about Aiden. Jenna obviously cared and that meant a lot to Sophie.

She fought the wind as she navigated the boardwalk, passing a few brave souls as she went. Not a single boat was on the harbor today. The waves kicked up, splashing into the seawall, shooting spray into the air.
