Not long after the old director entered the mountains, he saw Dr. Lin Baoguang sitting on a rock. The director circled around him. He thought that Dr. Lin had lost some weight and that he looked a little dejected. Could it be that his undertaking wasn’t going well on Blue Mountain?
“You needn’t go around me,” said Dr. Lin. “I can’t see you, but I can hear your footsteps. My hearing is okay.”
“Hello, Dr. Lin. It’s great to see you here. It’s a good omen for Niulan Mountain. How’s everything going over there on Blue Mountain?”
The director noticed that when Dr. Lin spoke, he looked very young and radiated good health.
“Do you mean our work? Never better. Blue Mountain is bursting with creativity because of the new generation joining in.”
“You mean the girl Angelica?”
“Yes, this girl is the spark. Because of her, the people of Blue Mountain are changing their outlook on life.”
With that, Dr. Lin stood up. The director hurried over to embrace him, but he held only air. Dr. Lin had disappeared. The director noticed a swarm of ants on the rock where Dr. Lin had just been sitting. The ants were now scurrying down the mountain. The director thought they were rushing to Yun Village to spread the message that the saint had brought here to the villagers. What a wonderful message! The director still remembered that a poisonous snake had bitten his leg when he was collecting herbs in the mountains that afternoon more than forty years ago. It was this Dr. Lin Baoguang who had saved his life with herbs. It was then that the director learned of the existence of the Blue Mountain medical institution. He had gone to Blue Mountain to find his savior but never succeeded. Instead, Dr. Lin had come to the county seat twice to meet with him. Both times he came and left in a hurry, saying he was just passing by. From his brief visits, the director knew that his benefactor was satisfied with his work in the county. Oh, so many ants! Perhaps the leaders had already arrived at Chunxiu’s herb garden?
The director sat on the rock because he wanted to experience Dr. Lin’s spirit realm. By this time the last ant colony had hurried away. As soon as the director sat down, he saw his own halo illuminating the rough rock. He was taken aback, for he had never seen light coming from his body. Slowly he saw the beauty of the rock. Some of the patterns on the rock, though vague, were particularly vivid in the light, reminding him of his many years of practicing medicine. He couldn’t tell what the changing patterns meant, but the more he couldn’t tell the more emotional he became. It seemed to be about his first love, but the core of it had something to do with Chunxiu.
He fell in love with this rock. He felt himself fusing with the rock. Opposite him, the python was dancing.
