Mrs. Yi heard a small animal running around on the roof, and asked Kay about it.
“It’s the weasel. It came to tell me the good news.” Kay lowered her head and smiled. “But I already know where he is.”
“Your reunion is just around the corner.”
“This place has magic power. That’s why I rushed over here without giving it a thought.”
Kay went to the inner room and returned with an old photo for Mrs. Yi to identify. From the picture, Mrs. Yi saw the rolling waves of the ocean and a few small black dots on the shore. The arrangement of black dots reminded her right away of the map of Blue Mountain that she had seen before. Her hands trembled.
“This is the fishing village. This photo used to be kept at the village office,” Kay said.
“Ah!” Mrs. Yi sighed.
“Of course you know what’s in this picture. I am so thankful to God that I made the right choice—I came to your village. Now my husband is as fortunate as I am because you’re our light.”
“Thank you for saying that. But don’t be too lavish with your praise—I think you’re the light for me and my husband. Look at you, you’re full of life!”
“Great—let’s encourage each other now and then.”
Mrs. Yi picked up the yellowed photo and looked at it carefully.
“Who was there?” she murmured to herself in bewilderment.
“Can’t you see? It was the old director.”
“Yes, that’s exactly who it is.” Mrs. Yi sobbed, tears rolling down her face.
They went outside, looking up. What a pure night sky. Kay told Mrs. Yi that it was the director who brought her the good news. The director had not appeared but had spoken vaguely outside her window, and she knew immediately who it was. And she understood at once that he had brought good news of her husband. So in the middle of the night, she had a wonderful interaction with her husband. “It was head over heels,” Kay said a little sheepishly.
Kay pointed out a woman who was passing by in the distance and told Mrs. Yi that it was her patient. Kay enjoyed treating her. Once, in Kay’s clinic, they both heard Kay’s husband talking to them during the treatment, and they chatted with him for about five minutes. During this short period, Kay became an entirely different person. She couldn’t tell which stimulated her more—the work she was doing, or listening to her husband, or seeing the patient’s response. She had reached the pinnacle of her happiness. “He has become so perfect and so helpful to my work that I never expected his departure to turn out like this.” As Kay spoke, she embraced Mrs. Yi tightly, trembling with excitement. “After the fishing village was destroyed, I was the only family he had. I always thought I was his rock, but now our relationship is reversed.”
“Great,” Mrs. Yi said with a smile, “this is what you deserve. What you’ve said has aroused waves of excitement in my heart.”
