“Excuse me.” He said politely, passing more. Five, four, three, two…
“Excuse me.”
“Sure, no pro—Langston?!”
He paused, startled, but instantly recognizing me, he exclaimed, “Oh my God, Montana Moore. Look at you! What a coincidence!” Eyeing me up and down, he was hooked. His eyes never left me as we sat and talked for the next hour.
The plane landed, the cabin doors flung open, and soon after, we were off. He invited me to a dinner that night with a multi-millionaire building contractor interested in contributing to his campaign fund. I accepted of course, and the race began. After retrieving his luggage, we reached the garage and the beep beep car alarm sounded on his brand-new 720 BMW with personalized license plates that read LJBIII. He popped open his trunk. It was pristine. Showroom clean. He laid flat his garment bag, closed the trunk, walked over to his side, opened his door, hopped in the car, and rolled down his window.
“We don’t want to be late. Dinner is in an hour and a half.”
No, this brother didn’t sit his beige ass in his car and not even open my door or offer to put my bag in his trunk. Okay, maybe he has a lot on his mind with the approaching election and this dinner tonight. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. He wasn’t expecting me, and maybe it’s going to take a few moments for chivalry to kick in. I exhaled, straightened my face, and like a lady asked, “Langston?”
“Yes?” he responded, glancing at his watch.
“Aren’t you forgetting something?”
He paused for a second looking uncharacteristically dum-founded. Raising my brow, I guided his eyes with my eyes to the trunk.
“Oh.” He looked remorseful. “I’m sorry, forgive me.” Pressing a button on his console, the trunk door flew open. “Try not to wrinkle my suit. It’s virgin wool.”
I hoisted my bag up and laid it in the trunk, making sure it smashed every inch of his suit. Then I closed the trunk, opened my own door, and hopped in the car.
“Montana, I can’t tell you how good it is to see you!”
Zooming off, we jumped on the 295 and headed to his townhouse in Georgetown. On the way we listened to the Larry Elder Show.
