“At least I don’t go stealing someone else’s man, like somebody we know. You, Gail, are like a Ziploc bag: a rest haven for leftovers!”

“Who you calling a rest haven?”

“Hmmm, let me see…” He looked around, rolled his eyes, tapped his chin, and finally said, “You!”

“Take it back, Sam!”

“I ain’t taking nothing back, Gail. Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Now, you’re free! Freee! Frrrrreeeeeeeee!”

“Damn it, Sam, that’s it!!!” Grabbing each other, tugging at each other’s clothes and hair, they both wrestled down to the floor. Oh yeah, we were definitely back where we had started. As usual, it was me, the very one who needed consoling, who would be responsible for stopping them from killing each other. As I began pulling them apart, there was a honking sound outside of my apartment building.

“You better be glad she pulled me off you, Gail.”

“You’re the one that should be glad, Sam.”

The honking continued.

Sam wiped the dust from his suit and crossed to the window. “Somebody is honking awful loudly outside of your window.”

“Who is it?” Gail asked.

“I don’t know. But whoever it is is in a long black stretch limousine.”

“Limousine?!” Rushing to the window, looking below, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“Are you all right, Montana?” Gail asked.

“Girl, is this limo for you?” Sam asked.

I nodded my head quickly as Richard jumped out from the car, ran and opened the side door. Stepping out in a long black wool trench was Quinton.

“Ooooh, girl. Somebody hand me a halo ’cause I have just been touched by an angel!” Sam exclaimed.

“Girl, who is that?” Gail asked as her eyes nearly popped out of her head.

“That’s Quinton.”

“That’sQuinton?!”

“That’s Quinton?! Ooh, and in a long black limousine. Girl, now I know what Grace Jones was talking about. He could pull up to my bumper anytime!” Sam instantly began singing. “Pull up to my bumper, Quinton…in your big black limousine!!!”

“Sam, stop it, okay?”

“I’m sorry, girl,” he said, but started right back up. “And drive it in between!!!!”

“Sam!”

“Girl, I’m sorry! Is that who was supposed to be at the engagement party at nine?”

“Yes.”

“Well, girl, you better say something. ’Cause in a minute, you about to come up short.”

“I know that’s right,” Gail added.

“You know what’s right, Gail? You’ve already exceeded your stolen boyfriend quota for the year, so back up, you hoochie!”

Richard continued to lightly tap the horn.

“Girl, you better answer that man.”

“Why should I answer him? He was late.”

“Better late than never.”

“Girl, that man flew in all the way from California for you. I thought that’s what you wanted.”

“He was what I wanted. But that was an hour ago.”

“Well, what changed, Montana?”
