Small Cloud and I were computing food expenses for the Sabotage Squad. Suddenly we were called to a meeting. The traitor was kneeling, hands tied behind his back. I did not know him. Ah Kei said he used to leave rice bags for some of our units, but informed the police on us, and it had been decided to punish him.

Ah Mao stepped forward and told how they had captured the traitor. Four comrades had gone to the shop where he was staying, next to the smoke-house where the workers bring the rubber to the presses. They waited for him, but he did not come. They went to his house, and saw him walking up the road. He did not suspect anything. Ah Mao told him to come for a walk in the jungle, as there was something important that the Corps Commander wanted to say to him. Then the traitor said he was too busy, he would come tomorrow. So Ah Kei suddenly told him to put his hands up and not to move. He tried to run away, but one comrade tripped him up. They tied him with rope and led him through the rubber to our camp.

Our Corps Commander, head of Sabotage Squad, and the teacher were the judges. The traitor was asked why he passed information to our oppressors. He said he had not passed true information, only pretended to do so, because the detective was suspicious of him, and always coming suddenly to his house, asking him questions, and threatening him. Once, he said, he had got into great trouble for stopping his rice lorry in a side road. He was just going to dump some rice for us, but six of the police suddenly came upon him. They took him to the Station and questioned him for hours, but all the information he gave them was made up, and without value.

But Ah Mao then shouted that it was his information which led to the capture of two of our food suppliers by the Gurkhas. The traitor denied this, but the evidence was against him; he had received two hundred dollars for his betrayal. He began to weep, and said he had to give a little information to save himself, but he had been faithful and loyal to us, and often supplied us with food. But our temper was up, so he was sentenced to death and we chopped his head off with an axe, after making him dig his own grave.

After supper we were still talking about the judgement, and how the traitor was questioned, how he was caught, and how he died.

5 October It is now official that the Party has been asked to approve the union between Comrade Sen and Comrade Small Cloud.
