Stayed the night in Fong Kiap’s house with members of Sabotage Squad in Langtry estate. In the morning set off to transport foodstuffs. We separated and warned all food collectors on two or three estates. After that had nothing to do but read all afternoon. After our meal at five, got ready. Walked back in the direction of Langtry estate, but warned of an ambush. Meeting place was changed. Met our food suppliers and began our work. Everybody was very happy and there was so much to carry, some of us set off to get help. Finally there were about twenty of us. The young workers of the Movement were so happy carrying the foodstuffs that they were about to come in a group and join us. Things were so plentiful, that we had to make the journey twice. Half way, comrades of the Sabotage Squad came to help us. Small Cloud cooked the food for us, with Ah Kei’s wife helping her. Small Cloud is a good comrade, always cheerful. In the evening sang songs and told stories of our childhood days.

15 May Executed a traitor named Meng on Langtry Estate by tying him to a rubber tree and hacking him with a changkol.[3] Big Dog Tsou then showed him to the tappers, so that they would understand his treachery, and our might.

30 May Comrade Sen returned. New directives: To become more selective in our targets; to avoid antagonizing the people or frightening them; wherever possible to lecture them. To pick out only estate managers who are hated by the workers, and spare the others. To be friendly to Malays and show respect and consideration for their religion.

Comrade Sen interrogated the recruits and spoke with Ah Lam and Small Cloud. It is Ah Lam’s birthday, he is twenty-four and has now been eight years in the Organization. Except for one year outside, all this time he has been Inside. I gave him some cigarettes and a new diary book. In the evening cleaned and oiled our weapons and talked of the old days under the Japanese devil oppressors.

5 June Small Cloud brought us some nipa palm, coconuts, pork, and two chickens. She has been to Langtry estate and had bad news. After the punishment of Meng the traitor, Big Dog Tsou, Fong Kiap, and some other rubber tappers have been taken away by the police. Like a net, the police catch all kinds of fish, useful and worthless!

But this is nothing. The Organization works everywhere. In detention camps such men as Big Dog Tsou will know how to continue working for the Revolution.

10 June Very rainy weather. The new teacher is ill and spits blood. His face is flushed with fever.
