“So what time is this bum-ass nigga supposed to get here?” Kisa asked, referring to Brian, Jordan’s biological dad.
“Now, and if he don’t get here in the next ten minutes, I’m out.”
“What did ya mom and them say about Brian meeting Jordan today?” Eisani questioned Kennedy.
“I didn’t tell nobody but y’all. I didn’t even tell Yatta.”
“Why you ain’t tell ya sister?” Kisa inquired.
“It’s like this, whatever happens here today, y’all not gonna judge me, and I won’t have to hear about it no more. For instance, if this nigga don’t show up today, it’s no sweat off my back since Jordan don’t know why we’re here anyway.”
“Kennedy, you didn’t explain to him that he was here to meet his real father?” Eisani asked, perplexed.
“Sure did not,” Kennedy replied, her lips twisted to the side. As she was about to explain her reasoning, a man with medium-length dreads that sprouted wildly from his head approached the three women. Kennedy glanced up at him, then did a double take once she recognized his face. It was Brian. It had been seven years since she’d last seen him. Back then he was slim and kept his hair in a neat low cut. One thing for sure, he was still fine, with baby fine chocolate skin and a perfect square chin. He was iced out and fly in clothes that were not even in stores yet.
There was a brief silence as they just stared at each other. Brian spoke first. “What up, Kennedy? Damn, get up and give a nigga a hug.”
“You’s a fucking idiot if you think you’ll ever get another hug from me in this lifetime.”
Kisa and Eisani both burst into laughter.
Brian looked at them. “I see the get-along gang is still together. How y’all been?”
“We straight,” Kisa answered for the both of them.
“That’s good, that’s good.” He focused his attention back on Kennedy, thinking she was more beautiful than ever. “Where my boy at?”
Kennedy rolled her eyes in utter disgust. “I don’t know where your boy is, but my son is over there on the court.”
Brian looked over and zoomed in on the little boy who was undeniably his. “Wow, he’s a big boy.”
“What the fuck was you expecting, a newborn? I mean, he is six years old now, or did you even know that?” Kennedy asked, with plenty of attitude.
“Kennedy, I know I was foul and shit for the way I carried you, but you need to kill that sarcastic shit.”
“I need to what?” Kennedy stood up and got in Brian’s face, “Nigga, who da fuck you think you talkin’ to? I’m not the lil’ dumb bitch you used to know. Don’t ever think you can tell me what to do in your joke-ass life. And you better consider yourself privileged that I’m even here today, allowing you to stand within two hundred feet of my son.”
“I see you still sexy as hell when you mad.” Brian reached out to caress her face.
