Mama Ami’s soft chuckle filled the air. “Oh, very clever, little wolf. Eva won’t be able to get Declan’s sister. She’s firmly out of reach.” She opened her eyes, a question in them. “Unless you think she might side with her father?”

“No,” I said without hesitation. “She’s on Declan’s side. Are you sure she’s safe?”

“Unless they kill the human—which I’m not discounting, from what I know of them.”

“Sidney,” I repeated. “Her name is Sidney.” An unexpected wave of relief hit me, hearing they were okay and out from under Eva’s magical influence. Declan had been so worried. Even though the situation was a nightmare, at least they were there, alive and whole. We could fix anything else. We just had to free them first.

No pressure or anything.

Bay had finished drawing on Trick and moved on to Vanessa. The delay made me fidget—Declan was right there. He was in danger. It was hard, keeping my anxiety in check. But running in there without every advantage we could scrape up would be beyond careless. We were already outnumbered.

The wait bit at me, but I also knew it was worth it. “Why would they need to kill Sidney?”

“She’s mated to the wolf,” Mama Ami said, watching Bay as he moved on to Will. “Interesting choice of sigil.”

“Are you drawing a dick on me?” Will asked. “You should be drawing on the others, anyway. My magic isn’t much.”

Vanessa reached out to punch his arm, but stopped herself just in time, giving him a gentle pat instead. “I don’t want to hear that.”

“It’s the truth,” Will said, trying to not move the muscles in his face. “Mine is more study than innate skill.”

“I’m giving you luck,” Bay said. “We could all use a little bit of that, couldn’t we?”

“Focus, people,” I said, exasperated. “Go back, Mama Ami. Zoey and Sid are mated?”

Mama Ami nodded. “I checked. Good, healthy bond, too. I bet Eva is furious.” She rubbed her hands in glee, an evil look on her face. I loved her so much.

It was my turn now, and I held still while Bay drew on my cheeks. He moved with a practiced ease, the symbol done in seconds. After me, he drew on his mom and then himself. The second he was done, he licked his palm and smacked it against the sigil on Trick’s face. The symbol flared an incandescent purple before the magic settled into the skin, looking like a Sharpie drawing once again.

“Did you have to smack quite so hard?” Trick asked.

Bay grinned. “I can have a little fun, can’t I?”

I ignored my brother. Mama Ami’s report about Zoey and Sid had given me an idea. Could Declan and I do what they’d done? We hadn’t discussed it. It was such a big decision and everything with us had happened so fast. I think we both thought we’d have time for bigger discussions later. But all of a sudden later had become now.
