Her academic background gave her a strong foundation in historical research, literary interpretation, and the study of how stories shape our understanding of the past. Before becoming widely known as a novelist, she pursued academic and professional work while developing her interest in historical storytelling. Her breakthrough came with Wideacre, published in 1987, a historical novel that introduced readers to her willingness to explore ambition, family conflict, desire, and the darker sides of social power. She subsequently developed a reputation for writing compelling novels about the English monarchy and the women whose experiences were often overshadowed by the achievements of kings and male political figures. Her research-driven approach, combined with a strong interest in character and motivation, has helped her create stories that appeal to both established historical-fiction readers and newcomers to the genre. Gregory has also written contemporary novels,...Read More
